Job Title: MS SQL Server Database Administrator
Location: Baltimore, MD
Salary/rate: $55-68/hour

A MS SQL Server Database Administrator is responsible for a database’s performance, integrity, and security. The DBA will be engaged in the database’s design and development and debugging any difficulties that arise on behalf of the users. They will make sure that data is consistent across the database.

Responsibilities:

  • Administering all aspects of Microsoft SQL Server including Replication, Backup/Restore procedures, Capacity Planning and related components, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, and Integration Services
  • Recommending/implementing solutions for SQL performance monitoring and tuning  
  • Assisting with Windows Server configuration and management as it relates to MS SQL Server installation and performance to maintain license compliance
  • Controlling access permissions and privileges  
  • Migrating the Databases from SQL Server 2016 to SQL Server 2022  
  • Providing support for maintenance plans (including DBCC), backup, recovery, and highly availability SQL Server solutions, including Replication Models (Snapshot/Transactional)
  • Disaster Recovery planning, execution, and testing  
  • Performing database activities, such as monitoring, space management, and support, as well as extended hours of support for database systems when required  
  • Maintaining documentation of data standards, procedures, and definitions for data dictionary
  • Migrating data from Oracle to MS SQL Server database
  • Providing all aspects of basic systems administration support, such as installing and configuring new hardware and software
  • Supporting virtualization technologies, such as VMware and Microsoft HyperV, creating and configuring virtual machine
  • Conducting constant performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
  • Configuring CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required in both Physical and Virtual servers
  • Providing Network Administration support with knowledge in network protocols (TCP/IP, FTP) and network devices (Routers, Switches, Fibers)
  • Supporting and administering applications such as Access Control and Kleinport, etc
  • Implementing/deploying Microsoft Technologies, such as Visual Studio Framework, VB.NET, ASP.NET, and Web Services

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Database Administration, or a related field
  • Have at least five years of current experience in managing and administering MS SQL databases. Note that “current experience” is defined as experience in supporting either the latest version or the next to latest database version
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, effective time management skills, good interpersonal skills, and must be able to demonstrate effective judgement with respect to business and financial matters that affect the work under the resource’s management
  • Possess effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Must collaborate effectively with other operational support teams
  • Possess a general understanding of ITIL processes and framework. ITIL foundation certification is preferred. Administers Oracle Software licenses and assures license compliance
  • Possess an MS SQL Server Database Administration certification
  • Minimum of five years of practical experience as a database management resource
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration
  • Minimum of two years of basic system and Network infrastructure administration
  • Minimum of one year of experience in various Virtualization tools, VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
